Since I deleted instagram I’ve been thinking of new ways to connect to friends and people. And as you already heard I’m trying out a little newsletter, Iā€™m happy to share a first post with the little projects and experiences that have been going on :)

Itā€™s a bit of an experiment as all things are <3 Let me know how I’m doing x

Drawing

Sometimes itā€™s easy to forget some hobbies are your hobbies, but I believe everything comes in waves. Itā€™s been a good month since I did any drawing, but going outside for a walk and a little bit of doodling to clear my head got the ball rolling again :) Here I had little expectations, thinking I forgot how to draw, but I surprised myself! I like how the circles ended up being really simple, contrasting so much with the detailed spiky chaos! img

I also really love the idea of ā€œcondensed energyā€. Compacted consciousness, atomicity or the smallest something can possibly get. When you see big red circles in a drawing thatā€™s usually me trying to visualize an extreme energy potential, contained by alien sigils (or barely contained). Anyhow, here are some little cores, or someone said a knee, which are also intricate! Take care of your knees ;) (also watch Neon Genesis Evangelion). img

Art swaps! I live for these. You basically swap your sketchbook with someone else and fill a page for eachother. This is an art swap with Bave on a date in Den Haag! They love flowers so I often call them bloem (flower) :3 Their art book paper had a really fun texture to draw, I want to explore textures of different mediums more! I also tried to mimic their little cute highlights, I feel like Iā€™m collecting peopleā€™s ideas and taking them on a trip on my own explorations alongside inside me :) img

Abroad in Copenhagen! I went to a queer bookstore to test my luck. And there was Kosai, drawing on her comic! She was so eager to show me around and have a cozy chat! We ended up doing an art swap and she wrote me a little haiku inspired by how my pens and gloves had ended up on the table :) Check them out on insta @kosaizzz for their funny historical informative and political comics!! img

Crystals

New project! Trying to grow digital crystals. Iā€™m always impressed by the geometry of crystals and Iā€™d like to understand better how nature can create these beautiful structures.

I tried to approach it by first getting a bit more familiar with generating 3d structures. So my start here is trying to generate a simple pyramid which would be able to grow! img

This expanded in a little snake which would grow in a certain procedure I told it to! img

An even longer snake! The structures I created ended up spiraling very prettily img

This one ended up looking like a protein! img

Next I decided to allow the pyramids to intersect one another, which ended in more funky business. img

I paused the project a little because life got a bit busy at the moment. My next intention would be to actually grow some crystal lattices with a lot more pyramids.

Synth

I’ve also been continuing on a software synthesizer! This lets me compute audio signals on the graphics card, and investigate the resulting soundwaves visually.

The goal is to, one day, create a song with accompanying visuals!

Left you see the soundwaves, right is the code generating it. There are also knobs/sliders to play with the sounds! img

Here I cleaned everything up a bit, rewrote the graph renderer (400x faster!), and made a cute sound effect :) img
